The BEC Arena in Trafford became the ultimate hub for pop culture fans over the weekend, delivering two action packed days of panels, rare guest encounters, and high energy show floor moments. From unexpected stage comedy to martial arts lore and video game royalty, Comic Con Manchester pulled out all the stops.  

Day 1: High Octane Action, Improv Comedy, and Fighting Game Lore

Saturday opened with massive crowds and an electric atmosphere, kicked off by a series of main stage panels that blended behind the scenes secrets with pure entertainment.

Manu Bennett Steals the Stage

Manu Bennett turned his morning session into an absolute masterclass in crowd engagement. Best known as Slade Wilson (Deathstroke) in Arrow and the terrifying Orc chieftain Azog in The Hobbit trilogy, Bennett bypassed standard Q&A routines entirely. Pacing the stage and jumping into the crowd, he delivered a hilarious, high energy panel packed with physical comedy, spontaneous impressions, and rowdy stories about stunt training and prosthetic suits.

The Mortal Kombat Panel Delivers a Knockout

Fighting game fans got a front row seat to franchise history during the Mortal Kombat showcase. Featuring martial arts stars like Lewis Tan and Ludi Lin alongside franchise voice talents, the cast brought unmatched enthusiasm to the main stage. They shared behind the scenes stories about voice recording sessions, motion capture work, and the evolution of the game’s legendary fatalities. Hearing the actors re create iconic catchphrases live on stage brought down the house.  

Finn Jones Reflects on Iron Fist

Finn Jones took to the stage to give fans an open and engaging look back at his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Danny Rand (Iron Fist, The Defenders), alongside his role as Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones.

Jones broke down the intense choreography prep required for his martial arts scenes, shared anecdotes about working within the Marvel machine, and answered fan questions about his favorite moments on set.  

Day 2: Comedy Gold, Villainous Wit, and Voice Acting Royalty

Sunday kept the momentum going, serving up some of the funniest and most memorable stage interactions of the entire weekend.

Nathan Kress Delivers the Comedy!

Nathan Kress (iCarly) brought non stop laughs during his afternoon panel, proving to be one of the comedic highlights of the convention. Reflecting on growing up in the spotlight as Freddie Benson, Kress shared hilarious stories about the absurd props, wild script moments, and hectic shooting schedules of Nickelodeon classics. His quick self deprecating humor and sharp banter with fans during the Q&A had the entire room in stitches.

Michelle Gomez Rules the Room

Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Flight Attendant) commanded the main stage with her signature chaotic charm and sharp wit. Playing to the crowd with theatrical flair, Gomez shared brilliant behind the scenes memories of playing Missy—the female incarnation of The Master—and answered fan questions with razor sharp comedic timing that kept everyone laughing from start to finish.  

Jennifer Hale Brings Voice Royalty to the Stage

Gaming legend Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) brought incredible warmth, humor, and star power to her Sunday panel. Slipping seamlessly between her famous character voices—including Commander Shepard and Bastila Shan—Hale treated the audience to live line readings, offered practical advice for breaking into the voiceover industry, and shared genuine moments of appreciation with long time fans.

Star Studded Lineup Across the Weekend

Beyond the headline stage panels, the convention floor was packed with famous faces from legendary television shows, blockbuster films, and hit video games.

Headlining the weekend was Oscar winner Helen Hunt alongside television icon David Boreanaz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Bones). Nostalgia ran high with major cast reunions throughout the arena: 

 

• Bones Reunion: Emily Deschanel, Michaela Conlin, T.J. Thyne, Tamara Taylor, and Eric Millegan met up with fans to celebrate the beloved crime series.  
• Buffy & Angel Favorites: Joining Boreanaz were fan favorites James Marsters (Spike), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Amy Acker (Fred/Illyria), and Julie Benz (Darla).
• Sons of Anarchy Royalty: Outlaw biker culture hit Manchester with Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, Mark Boone Junior, and David Labrava signing autographs and snapping photos.
• Game of Thrones & Marvel Stars: Gethin Anthony (Renly Baratheon) joined fellow Westeros alum Finn Jones.
• Screen & Voice Legends: Sci fi icon Carrie Henn (Aliens), action veteran Bill Duke (Predator), Richard Chaves (Predator), and gaming voice talents Patricia Summersett (Princess Zelda in Breath of the Wild) and Roger Craig Smith (Sonic the Hedgehog, Batman: Arkham Origins) rounded out an unbelievable guest list.  

The Show Floor Experience

Beyond the celebrity panels and photo ops, the BEC Arena was buzzing with activity across both days. Artist Alley showcased local illustrators and independent comic creators, while the cosplay competition brought out jaw dropping custom builds, screen accurate armor, and creative group mashups.  

Between the non stop hilarity on stage and the bustling exhibitor floor, Comic Con Manchester delivered a weekend full of unforgettable moments for pop culture fans of every generation.
