The Scene Drift

Prime Video has released the first official images from Carrie, the upcoming television adaptation of Stephen King’s classic debut novel. Reimagined by showrunner Mike Flanagan, the eight-episode original series is scheduled to premiere globally this autumn.

The production marks the first time the 1974 novel has been adapted into a television series. 

The narrative updates the coming-of-age story for the modern era, focusing on misfit teenager Carrie White, played by Summer Howell, who was selected for the titular role following an extensive casting search. After the sudden death of her father, Carrie enters a public high school where she must navigate social media pressure and a viral bullying scandal, all while discovering her awakening telekinetic abilities.

The regular ensemble cast features Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Tota as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

Mike Flanagan serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, and he directed four episodes of the series. Stephen King also serves as an executive producer on the project, which is produced by Amazon MGM Studios. The series arrives during the 50th anniversary year of Brian De Palma’s 1976 feature film adaptation.
