Tom Burke and Eve Hewson are teaming up for a new feature from Lenny Abrahamson, with cameras rolling in Dublin from 2 March.
The project, currently untitled, marks Abrahamson’s latest collaboration with Element Pictures.
Set within Dublin’s Jewish community in the late 1970s, the film centres on 12 year old Davey, played by newcomer Sean Meagher. On the brink of adolescence, Davey finds himself caught between schoolyard anxieties and the quiet, complicated shifts taking place at home as his parents’ marriage begins to change shape. The story is described as intimate and lyrical, rooted in a specific community yet alive to the universal tremors of growing up.
Behind the camera, Abrahamson reunites with key creatives from Normal People and Conversations with Friends, including production designer Anna Rackard, cinematographer Suzie Lavelle, editor Nathan Nugent, make up designer Sonia Dolan and composer Stephen Rennicks. Costume designer Eimer nĂ Mhaoldomhnaigh and hair stylist Orla Carroll, both known for their work on The Banshees of Inisherin, also join the team.
Abrahamson, whose previous features include Room, continues his long standing partnership with Element Pictures. Producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe are joined by Catherine Magee and Abrahamson himself.
Burke’s recent screen work includes Black Bag for Steven Soderbergh, alongside earlier roles in Furiosa, The Souvenir and the BBC series Strike. Hewson recently appeared in Flora and Son, directed by John Carney, and in the series The Perfect Couple and Bad Sisters. She will next be seen in Disclosure Day from Steven Spielberg, due for release in June.
The film is backed by Film4, High Frequency Entertainment, Screen Ireland and RTÉ. A24 will distribute in the United States, Elevation Pictures in Canada, with FilmNation Entertainment handling international sales.
